Arnaldo Carreira-Rosario
Principal Investigator Arnaldo obtained a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Biotechnology from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez and his Ph.D. in Genetics & Development from UTSouthwestern. As a post-doc, Arnaldo received training in systems neurodevelopment at Stanford University and the University of Oregon. There, he studied neural circuits underlying locomotion and how neural activity emerges during development.
Outside the lab, Arnaldo likes to stay active by playing soccer and biking. He also loves trying new restaurants and traveling to visit friends and family. |
Carlos Paiva
Research Software Engineer Carlos received his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil. He currently works as a research software developer, focused on image analysis and in the development of calcium imaging processing pipelines for the lab. In his free time, Carlos enjoys cooking, running, and listening to Brazilian music.

Shirui Zheng
Postdoctoral Researcher Shirui obtained her bachelor's degree in Biology from the East China Normal University and her Ph.D. in Zoology from the Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences. As a Ph.D. student, she studied the seasonal adaptation in Lepidopteran and cilia formation in Drosophila. During her leisure time, Shirui enjoys traveling with her friends and family, playing badminton, hiking, painting, photography and playing with animals.

Tatiana Williams-Taylor
Undergraduate Researcher Tatiana is a second-year student at Duke University, where she is pursuing an academic path towards a major in Neurobiology, followed by a minor in Chemistry, all while maintaining her commitment to the Pre-medical track. Born and raised in the lively city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tatiana brings a diverse and dynamic perspective to her studies.
Outside of her academic pursuits, Tatiana enjoys engaging in social activities with friends and occasionally dedicating time to her fitness regime. |
Bela Aguilar
Undergraduate Researcher Bela is a rising senior at Duke studying Biology and Computer Science. Over her first 3 years, she's developed a passion for the exploration of natural sciences in the digital age and is eager to learn more about the relationship between biological and computational neural networks. Outside of the lab, she loves crocheting, playing and watching soccer, and competing in video game tournaments.
